Newsletter - March 2009

News - Welcome to my new look website, launched in conjunction with my new attachment to Wildwood Country Club.

I am really enjoying my role as the new PGA Coaching Professional at Wildwood. The reception and support I have received from the management and members has been great and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all.

The Tour - Despite the weather, I have still had the opportunity to compete in some Guildford Alliance events. The Alliance, the oldest organisation of its kind in the UK, is a pro-am society which plays some of the top golf courses in the South East. On Thursday, January 29th, I was joined at Woking Golf Club by Wildwood member, Pat Fox and by regular team member, John Cunliffe, from Lingfield Park.

Our team score was +1 (best 2 each hole) and I shot a level par 70 which was good enough for a tie for 4th.

My next event is the Sunningdale Foursomes, where I will team up with Scottish professional, Alasdair Hay, head professional at Tylney Park. We take on Sutton Green pro, Bernhard White and his playing partner, T. White. We tee off on the Old Course on Tuesday, 17th March at 9:58am.

Juniors - The younsters continue to brave the wintry conditions on Fridays and Saturdays.

Every Friday afternoon, the local Rikkyo School visits Wildwood and on Saturdays Mark Sweetland and I run junior roll-ups at 10:00am and 1:30pm. Despite their tender years and lack of experience, some of these younsters are showing excellent promise.

Young Masters Golf starts again at Wildwood, beginning on Saturday, April 18th. Forms are available at the Pro Shop.

Sunday, 1st February, was the 1st Monthly Stableford event at Wildwood Country Club for 2009. Josh Lawson won the day with an impressive score of 23 points. Due to the weather, the event was shortened to 9 holes. Runner-up was Ollie Fleming and 3rd place went to Adam Lawson. Click here to view the fixture list for Junior Tournaments at Wildwood.

Congratulations to our Junior Team for successfully negotiating their way to the 3rd round of the Christies Cup. The 3-man team defeated Chobham in the 1st round in January and on Sunday, February 15th, they beat West Hill. We wish the boys: Ollie Goodyear, Charlie Craddock & Glen Bridges, all the best for their upcoming match against St Georges Hill.
